Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's government has recognized 10 new Indigenous lands following protests during COP30. More than 60 Indigenous organizations traveled the Amazon from the Andes in Ecuador to Belém, Brazil to demand respect and climate solutions. The voices of Indigenous leaders were amplified as they emphasized the importance of being heard at the climate talks. Additionally, the risk to the Amazon rainforest was highlighted as Brazilian farmers aimed to end a ban on planting soya on cleared land, which could potentially spur deforestation. Efforts to overturn this long-standing ban pose a renewed threat to the rainforest, potentially leading to a surge in deforestation. On the streets of Glasgow and in Belfast, thousands and school pupils participated in demonstrations and a climate simulation negotiation, raising awareness about the climate emergency and the significance of global action.
